Description

The substantial remains of Creevelea Abbey, Dromahair, Co. Leitrim. Situated In a picturesque landscape beside the River Bonet, it is more correctly a friary as it was a Franciscan house. Founded in 1508 by Owen O’Rourke, Lord of Breifne, and his wife, Margaret, it was one of the last abbeys founded in Ireland before King Henry V111 dissolved all the monasteries in Ireland and England.
